1. Anyone interested in becoming a USA Swimming stroke and turn judge contacts the Officials Chair.

2. They will then be sent a registration form which they must return along with the $55 non-athlete registration fee.

2. They will then be sent a DVD and study packet.

3. When they are ready, they will take the test online. This can be retaken as many times as they need to.

4. Upon passing the test (80%), the trainee will contact the officials chair and arrange to come to an express clinic which will be held one hour before a meet.

5. After the clinic, the trainee will go on deck and begin their 40 hours of training. This involves shadowing certified officials in a variety of meet settings. (The hours can be less if the trainee has previous experience as an official in high school, college, or the equivalent.)

6. Upon completion of the training hours, the trainee can asked to be observed. During the observation, they will make the calls themselves. If they have shown competence in the eyes of the observer, they are then a certified official!
